If you're used to taking a coffee break because of long hangs every time you fire up Windows Explorer, the How-To Geek weblog suggests turning off network folder and printer searching in Explorer's folder options. Just open Explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options and click on the View tab. At the top of the File and Folders list, uncheck "Automatically search for network folders and printers" and click OK. If the networking issue was your Explorer slow-down culprit, you should notice a significantly faster startup next time you open up My Computer. (LifeHacker.Com)

For anyone who has tried to open an elevated command prompt in Vista, you are aware of the numerous clicks you have to go through to get there. What you may not know is that there is an easier way of accomplishing this. Vista has a secret keystroke that you can use to open an elevated command prompt.

To use Vista’s keystrokes to open an elevated command prompt:

Open the Start Menu, type the name of the application you want to run.

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER instead of just ENTER.

Press Alt + C to confirm the elevation prompt.

Feds say computer users will notice decrease in junk e-mail following arrest

SEATTLE - A 27-year-old man described as one of the world’s most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail.

Robert Alan Soloway is accused of using networks of compromised “zombie” computers to send out millions upon millions of spam e-mails.

“He’s one of the top 10 spammers in the world,” said Tim Cranton, a Microsoft Corp. lawyer who is senior director of the company’s Worldwide Internet Safety Programs. “He’s a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day.”
